Starting Over

MMM Yeah.

Above 7 months after my last blog post huh...interesting. Either way, I decided to start over with this website. As you can see (if you were here before this), the template is different - way simpler.

This is because I wanted to restart my online presence. What I was doing before clearly wasn't working, and I have higher hopes for what I want to do moving forward. First, I should lay out what I want to get out of posting my stuff online.

Community

I want to be a part of a collective of folks who read each other's work, provide feedback, and grow together. I think the idea of collaborating (on a work, on each other's work) is so powerful...and I want to be a part of something that does that.

On the topic of community, I've also come to some interesting realizations. As I get older, I am realizing more and more that I am OK not making money off of the stuff I create. It would be cool if people would pay for me to create stuff...but creating at the will of people? Nah, I'm 100% good off of that. Providing my creativity as an on demand service - where my survivorship lives and dies on people consuming my content? Idk chief.

So then, what is it that I want? Why do I want to post stuff on the internet? Why do I care if people read my works? That's a good question. Maybe I do want a book deal...maybe I do want to be paid to create... but not FORCED to live or die by the things I create maybe? These are some complicated thoughts!

Make a Book

I want to make a book. I was browsing reddit threads and someone recommended Silver Sprockets Catalogue and I immediately went "WOW THIS IS SO COOL!" How are those two thoughts connected? I want to make a book, and I have been thinking that my comic making / storytelling skill level is not good enough. I know my stuff doesn't look like manga, and doesn't look like the super hero stuff either...but then I came across this. There's stuff that looks all types of different (in a VERY GOOD way). This reinvigorated me. Maybe I, too, can make a +100 page book of good story.

Make a Game!

I think this is pretty self explanatory. I want to make something I can launch on steam and proudly say "yeah, I made that." Not just a small mini game sort of thing...a full fledged narrative focused, game. More on this at another time. =)

So what?

I've been moving pretty lackadasical when it comes to doing the things I want to do, so this is my attempt as re-focusing and moving with intent and direction. Will it work? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ We can only see!

One thing I do know though, is that I will continue to make and post my stuff online. Hopefully with this update to this site, I'll be more inclined to post on this blog weekly! That's always been a goal of mine... Posting would keep me grounded...focused...

But yeah, I think that does it for this one! I like these stream of consciousness type of posts... I think I'll do this moving forward!
